The JobKeeper Payment scheme was introduced by the Australian Government to help Australian businesses survive the decrease in turnover caused by the activity restrictions invoked to combat the COVID-19 pandemic that began to affect Australia through March 2020.
Designed to ensure that eligible employees are paid at least $1500 per fortnight by their employers, even when stood down, the Government hopes to minimise job losses and to prepare businesses for a more rapid recovery as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports are that the $70 billion JobKeeper scheme supports about 3.5 million Australians.
The JobKeeper Payment scheme operates in conjunction with Single Touch Payroll reporting (STP), and Megabus is pleased to have been able to add this functionality to Marlin HR in a timely and user-friendly manner.
Although it is unknown how many of our clients' employees have had JobKeeper enrolments and top-ups processed, we can report that we are on track to submit approximately 33,000 STP files to the ATO for the 2019-20 tax year.
Justin Chalk (General Manager) said: "Into the sixth fortnight, we're delighted with users feedback regarding ease of enrolment and top-ups. Our objective from the onset was to provide the shortest turn around time for our clients to receive the subsidy in their bank accounts. Ultimately the best area we can focus our energies on at this time."
Darren Kerr (Marlin HR Product Manager) said: "With an eye toward the end of the financial year, keep your eye out for the latest Marlin HR update (v2.0.10.2). Featuring a nice new touch of displaying the JobKeeper status of each employee in the pay run screens along with new tax scales for Study and Training Support Loans."
